Dolphin Quest at the Hilton |

John wanted to take a picture of the dolphin too... but I'm not so sure that is what he was really aiming the camera at. |
||||
Dolphin Quest holds a daily lottery drawing to pick 10 adults to do the dolphin encounter - a rare chance to swim with the dolphins in the lagoon. Becky wins the lottery! So, next day back at the lagoon....
Becky (and group) pets a dolphin |

Wow, what an amazing experience that was. If you ever have an opportunity to do something like this, do it! Here is where you can find out more about Dolphin Quest's other locations. | Heading back to the room on the canal boats and look what is floating up ahead... |
|||
While the Hilton was a great resort, the Big Island didn't impress us much, so we probably won't be heading back there anytime soon.

State fish of Hawaii - the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a Seriously! That's it's name! |

I love green sea turtles! |

Sunsent dinner on the beach at the Hula Grill. |

My dinner - a fish called Opakapaka in a coconut curry sauce with jasmine rice and pineapple slaw. Yummm! |

John's cousin Mikey Yanagi works for this company, so of COURSE we have to go to the luau every time we are on Maui. |

Weird experiment in timelapse photography - night sky over palm trees (white blotches are a 1/4 moon and Venus) |
|||
These hula pics came out even darker than the ones at the PCC up top (and I got to use a flash this time!). Night photography is certainly an art. |

Shopping at Hilo Hattie's for souvenirs! |
||||
Last day in the islands - we stopped at a big wind-surfing beach on the way to the airport. A guy in distress called for help and John jumped into the surf (fully dressed with wallet and cellphone in his pockets) to help... poor wet Johnny! |
||||
All pictures above were taken with Becky's new Kodak DC4800 digital camera. Very cool piece of equipment.
Since I got a new scanner for my birthday, here are a few more pictures that were taken with the 35mm camera I got for Christmas from my mom and dad. It takes great pictures - just not digital ones, so I'm glad I have the scanner! (For you technophiles - the camera is an Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80 and the new scanner is an Epson Expression Professional 1600 with transparency adapter)
Here is John "to the rescue" when a surfer's kite went down in the shore break. John's cellphone had to be replaced - the disposable camera also in his pocket was developed with most pictures actually coming out OK - and his wallet dried out finally and is still being used. |

Here is a group shot of the Yanagi clan. |
What a great looking guy... |
